    The Spin

    Pro-government narrative

It is clear that Mandelson systematically lied to everyone during vetting, and whilst regretabble in hindsight Starmer made a reasonable appointment at the time which was initially viewed as a success story in Washington. When new evidence emerged showing the true depth of Mandelson's deception, the PM acted decisively by initially firing him and now stripping his titles. Starmer has been more transparent than any recent leader would be in releasing these documents.

    Opposition narrative

Starmer's admission that he knew about Mandelson's Epstein ties before the appointment is unacceptable. The Prime Minister knowingly sent someone with connections to a convicted sex offender to represent Britain in Washington, then tried to cover it up by blocking document releases until his own MPs forced his hand. Starmer made an indefensible choice, likely marking the beginning of the end for his premiership.
