Stark Defence's €500M raise is proof that European defense tech has hit a serious inflection point. A two-year-old Berlin startup landing a nine-figure Bundeswehr contract and deploying battle-tested drones in Ukraine before most startups find product-market fit is extraordinary. Sequoia, Founders Fund and the NATO Innovation Fund don't bet this big on companies that aren't already winning.
Stark's valuation surge looks impressive until you remember that Virtus failed four strike attempts in trials with British and German forces in October 2025. Governments are handing out contracts because they're desperate for domestic weapons capacity, not because the hardware is proven at holding ground on the battlefield. Big funding rounds don't mean the drones actually hit their targets when it counts.
