Spotify's new AI Persona badge is a long-overdue stand for authenticity on a platform that's been overrun with fake, AI-generated acts. Listeners deserve to know whether a real human made the music they love, and excluding AI profiles from algorithmic recommendations protects genuine artists from being buried by bots. True artist-fan connection demands transparency, and Spotify is finally delivering it.

While Spotify’s new AI Persona badges may improve transparency, there's a reason it avoided filtering AI artists for so long. Detection is difficult, AI use exists on a spectrum, and false positives could punish real musicians. Now Spotify must police the line itself, risking mislabeled artists, costly enforcement and an AI detection arms race as the technology gets harder to distinguish.
