The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Somalia's termination of all UAE agreements represents a necessary defense of national sovereignty against foreign interference. Strong evidence shows the UAE has actively undermined Somalia's territorial integrity through unauthorized military operations, illegal airspace violations and support for separatist movements. The decision to reclaim control over strategic ports and end security partnerships protects Somalia's independence from a Gulf power that has proven itself an enemy of Somali unity.

Government-critical narrative

The federal government's unilateral cancellation of UAE agreements violates constitutional provisions granting regional states authority over their own security and development partnerships. Puntland and Jubaland retain legal rights under their state constitutions and Article 142 of the Provisional Federal Constitution to maintain agreements supporting critical counterterrorism operations and port development. This reckless move by Mogadishu reveals political theater designed to distract from domestic failures.
