The Spin

Republican narrative

Senate Republicans were right to block a premature war powers resolution on Cuba — the U.S. isn't engaged in hostilities there, making the legislation completely out of order. Trump is using economic pressure to push Cuba toward freedom and democracy, not launching a war. Handcuffing the president before any military action occurs would only embolden a regime that has oppressed its own people for decades.

Democratic narrative

The U.S. energy blockade on Cuba is already an act of war — cutting off fuel, food and medicine from millions of civilians while Trump openly threatens military takeover. Congress has a constitutional duty to authorize hostilities, and blocking this resolution hands one president unchecked power to start another catastrophic conflict. Working Americans want affordable lives, not billions spent on an unnecessary regime change 90 miles from Florida.
