The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Those responsible for this unacceptable and brazen attack on the U.S. Consulate in Toronto should rest assured they will be held to account for their actions. After all, the individuals connected with the shooting in March were all promptly arrested by the authorities, who will not stop their investigations until the perpetrators of this latest shooting are brought to justice.

Government-critical narrative

Gun crime statistics may be trending down, but criminals are getting bolder, with this latest incident marking the second attack on the consulate in four months. This serves as proof that Canada's lenient bail regime, soft youth sentencing and political reluctance to confront foreign actors like the IRGC have emboldened bad actors. If deterrence is to be restored, tougher consequences must be implemented.
