Violence gets packaged as entertainment online, with tragic consequences when vulnerable teens find themselves radicalized. Tools to block content glorifying mass killers belong in government hands, and stalling that under a free speech banner costs lives. Poland needs prevention programs built for this new threat, as the disturbing trend of violent youth extremism, often live-streamed, continues.
Handing officials a switch to erase online content would do nothing to stop a teenager with a knife and everything to please bureaucrats in Brussels who want more control over speech. Pinning a school tragedy on a presidential veto is cheap politics from a government that keeps failing at the basic job of keeping classrooms safe. Security gaps and possible foreign connections deserve answers first.
