The Spin

Techno-optimist narrative

Contrary to what some claim, Palantir is not offering the U.S. government a tool to oppress its people. Palantir has instead created systems that only allow the state to see what it needs to, to prevent internal and external threats. These safeguards ensure that governments can never misuse Palantir's technology to intrude upon the freedoms of ordinary citizens.

Techno-skeptic narrative

Palantir's soaring profits stem directly from the surveillance technology it's building for authoritarians and fascists. While it gleefully celebrates its contracts with the U.S. government, Palantir is enabling tyranny, equipping ICE with the tools it needs to track Americans through their cell phone location data, financial records, health information and social media posts.
