Abu Safiya holds the rank of colonel in Hamas's military wing and was photographed in the terror group's uniform at elite gatherings with senior commanders. The New York Times published his propaganda without disclosing his Hamas affiliation, allowing a ranking member of the organization responsible for massacring over 1,200 Israelis to spread lies about genocide.
Anti-Israel narrative
The accusations against Abu Safiya are baseless libels being spread as part of an Israeli propaganda campaign to justify its brutality against Palestinians. There is no evidence that Abu Safiya is affiliated with an armed movement, and Hamas' armed wing does not have the rank of colonel in its military structure. The photo from 2016 simply shows that Abu Safiya served in the Military Medical Services, a PA-operated government medical body. Even if Abu Safiya was part of a resistance group, which is simply not the case here, it would not justify the brutal torture he is experiencing at the hands of his Israeli captors.
