Musk Threatens to Sue Over Gibney's 'Musk' Documentary

Is this documentary a partisan hit piece by a biased director or is Musk bullying a filmmaker to dodge scrutiny?

The Spin

Right narrative

A director who spent years trashing Musk online and cutting checks to Democrats was never going to produce anything but a hit piece. The proof is right there in the film's central claim — that Musk used "space lasers" to steal the 2024 election, a conspiracy theory already debunked back in 2024, even by outlets like PolitiFact. Gibney selling partisan revenge as accountability journalism is a disgrace to documentary filmmaking.

Left narrative

The self-proclaimed "free speech absolutist" sicced his lawyers on a movie he hasn't even watched, which tells its own story. A documentary built on years of research, documents and testimony from people who actually worked with him deserves a point-by-point rebuttal with evidence. Refusing to engage with fact-checking and then pursuing the defamation angle looks a lot like fear of the finished product.
