Mitch McConnell Leaves Rehab, Returns Home

Is McConnell's post-rehab absence a troubling lack of transparency or responsible adherence to medical advice?

The Spin

Establishment-critical narrative

McConnell's discharge from rehab without a single photo or public appearance is a red flag that Kentuckians deserve to take seriously. The state is effectively down half its Senate representation, and a vague statement is not a substitute for proof of capacity. Missing a critical farm bill vote makes the cost of this absence concrete, not abstract.

Pro-establishment narrative

McConnell is following doctors' orders, maintaining intense physical therapy and staying engaged on Senate business from home — that's responsible governance. A fall, mild pneumonia and weeks of rehab at 84 is serious and rushing back too soon would only make things worse. The senator's record speaks for itself, and respecting medical advice is the right call.
