Is Missouri's redistricting a partisan gerrymander or was tossing out a lawful map illegitimate?

The Spin

Democratic narrative

Missouri's mess was manufactured on purpose — a mid-decade partisan gerrymander drawn on command, rammed through by Republicans in Jefferson City. The state Supreme Court, majority Republican appointees, said the map can't be used, and voters should settle it in November, yet GOP leaders keep grinding forward anyway. The choice on the next ballot is simple: competence or chaos.

Republican narrative

Tossing out a lawfully enacted congressional map after primaries were already run under it is the real election chaos, and it conveniently gifts Democrats a seat they couldn't win at the ballot box. Federal courts have twice refused to let that stand, upholding the map for the 2026 midterms. The Supreme Court should leave it in place and spare voters mass disenfranchisement.
