Is AI the problem in discriminatory hiring practices or are the humans behind it to blame?

The Spin

Narrative A

AI tools are actively discriminating against people with disabilities and other protected classes, and the lawsuit against Meta makes that undeniable. These algorithms encode historical bias directly into hiring and firing decisions, filtering out protected candidates. Without stronger federal regulation, AI will keep harming the most vulnerable workers.

Narrative B

Meta has strenuously denied these accusations, and the reality is that AI systems will make discrimination less of an issue in the workplace, since we can't update human nature the same way we can update a database. Regular audits, diverse training data, and making sure humans have the final say will reduce discrimination in hiring.
