The Spin

Techno-optimist narrative

Meta's Incognito Chat sets a genuine new standard for AI privacy, as messages are processed in a secure environment that even Meta can't access, disappear by default and leave no server logs. Other AI chatbots claiming incognito modes still see what's coming in and going out, making Meta's approach meaningfully different. Sensitive questions about health, finances or personal matters finally have a place where no company is watching.

Techno-skeptic narrative

Letting an AI chatbot operate with zero oversight is a potentially reckless gamble. If no one can review responses, hallucinations and dangerous misinformation go completely unchecked. AI tools still generate false sources and bad advice, and incognito mode removes the accountability that keeps those errors from causing real harm. Pushing this feature for sensitive health or safety questions before the technology is ready could put users at serious risk.
