The Spin

Narrative A

Ann Widdecombe was 78, still campaigning, still arguing, still beloved across party lines — Starmer, Badenoch, and Farage all paid tribute within hours. Police have been explicit: not terrorism, not politically motivated, a local suspect in custody. While the instinct to reach for a political frame is understandable, Widdecombe and her family deserve justice and understanding, not a readymade narrative.

Narrative B

The murder of a prominent political figure is a grim reminder that threats against elected representatives have exploded, and death threats have become so routine that many go unreported. Saying a prominent Reform UK figure's murder isn't political before the motive is established isn't reassurance — it's premature. The public has every right to wait for answers before taking police statements at face value.
