The Spin

Government-critical narrative

Nigeria has become the world's deadliest place for Christians, with thousands of people killed and churches destroyed. Fulani jihadists have systematically targeted Christians while leaving Muslim communities untouched, making this a calculated genocide. Government denial and complicity have long enabled these massacres to continue with total impunity, so it's no surprise that authorities are claiming that these reports are false.

Pro-government narrative

Violence in Nigeria targets people of all faiths indiscriminately, with Muslims actually comprising the majority of victims. The insurgency stems from weak governance and security breakdown, not religious persecution. Framing this complex conflict as Christian genocide — and spreading false rumors for political gain, as in this specific case — only empowers jihadists and risks creating the very religious war such rhetoric claims to fight.
