Judge Voids Trump's $1.8B IRS Settlement, Tax Audit Immunity

Did the judge stop a corrupt legal charade or a legitimate fund for victims of government overreach?

The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

Judge Williams made the correct decision. Trump literally sued an agency he controls, which isn't a lawsuit but a charade. The Constitution requires actual opposing sides in litigation, and this had none. Referring the lawyers to state bar authorities for ethics violations was the right call, and the silence from Republicans on this corrupt arrangement speaks volumes.

Pro-Trump narrative

Williams is an activist judge who overstepped by blocking this fund before a single claim was even reviewed. Now some victims of government overreach or weaponization won't receive due process based purely on their politics. Trump could've taken the settlement for himself but instead wanted the money directed to these victims. Hopefully, this decision will be reversed.
