The Spin

Pro-establishment narrative

The ICC made the right call removing Karim Khan, whose misconduct allegations made him a liability for an institution already under fire from Trump and Netanyahu. A tainted prosecutor hands adversaries the perfect excuse to dismiss the court's legitimacy entirely. Pursuing accountability for atrocities in Gaza, Ukraine and Sudan demands a credible chief prosecutor, not one undermining the court from within.

Establishment-critical narrative

Khan's removal was a political hit job in the name of justice — a U.N. investigation made 137 findings and not one established misconduct, and an independent judicial panel unanimously cleared him. The Assembly then rewrote its own removal procedure mid-process, barred Khan from speaking and collapsed two separate votes into one. Call that accountability stretches the term beyond recognition — it's blatant railroading.

Pro-Israel narrative

The long-delayed removal of Karim Khan from the ICC underscores deep concerns about the institution's credibility. His pursuit of arrest warrants against Israel's elected leaders was a politically motivated misuse of international law. Israel, a democracy with an independent judiciary defending itself against terrorism, was unfairly targeted — the warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant should be revoked immediately.

Anti-Israel narrative

Israel's campaign to discredit the ICC by highlighting Karim Khan's misconduct does not invalidate the court's case against Netanyahu and Gallant. The charges were independently reviewed and approved by three ICC judges in the pretrial chamber, which is why the allegations themselves should proceed, as should cases against Israeli officials regarding unlawful settlements, indiscriminate bombing and genocide in Gaza.
