The Spin

Left narrative

This result reaffirms what Labour and the establishment have feared for some time: that the Greens are a legitimate force in British politics. Whilst Reform pushes baseless conspiracy theories of sectarian voting, the people of Gorton and Denton have proven that the politics of hope is a winning formula.

Labour Party narrative

Though by-elections are never easy for the party in power, Gorton and Denton must represent a wake-up call for Labour. What might have been a different story had Andy Burnham been confirmed as the party's candidate has now turned into a dark moment of introspection. As the local elections loom, Labour must meaningfully pivot its strategy.

Right narrative

The Greens secured victory through shameless exploitation of the Muslim bloc vote on foreign issues and questionable family voting practices. Though the real loser of the by-election is Starmer and the Labour Party, this win nevertheless represents dangerous single-issue politics that prioritizes foreign communities over British interests.
