The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Given that America's adversaries are developing missiles that can threaten the U.S. homeland, the Golden Dome is the most urgently necessary defense investment in a generation. Unlike Reagan's SDI in the 1980s, the U.S. now possesses the technology to create a layered, space-based shield. Failing to acquire this capability would be an act of supreme negligence, leaving the U.S. critically exposed.

Government-critical narrative

The Golden Dome is a vanity project, one made all the worse by the fact that most defense experts agree that it would fail to stop a full Russian or Chinese strike, rendering it strategically useless. Instead of pursuing this folly, to the glee of defense contractors, the administration should re-engage with arms control and nuclear disarmament if it truly wants to reduce the threat of nuclear war.
