The Spin

Narrative A

Justice was served when a Pakistani court sentenced Hayat to death for the cold-blooded murder of Yousaf, who was shot in her own home after rejecting his advances. This verdict sends a clear message that violence against women carries real consequences. Yousaf's father called it a lesson for all such criminals, and that's exactly what it is.

Narrative B

A death sentence doesn't fix the rot in a society where some people celebrated Yousaf's murder because she posted TikToks. The real problem is a culture that dehumanizes women and treats male violence as something women provoke. Until Pakistan confronts the normalization of femicide head-on, no single verdict will be enough to protect the next girl.
