The Spin

Right narrative

The Biden-era CIA was weaponized against everyday Americans, flagging motherhood and homemaking as signs of white extremist radicalization — a stunning abuse of intelligence resources. Retracted documents relied on left-wing media and activist groups, proving ideological capture at the highest levels. Trump's CIA director was right to pull these 19 biased reports and demand real accountability.

Left narrative

Far-right accelerationist networks pose a documented, real threat, shown by the Terrorgram Collective radicalizing a teen who killed classmates, yet the full force of U.S. counterterrorism law was never deployed against these groups. Dismissing legitimate extremism research as political bias leaves dangerous networks free to recruit and inspire violence. Gutting that intelligence work makes America measurably less safe.

Cynical narrative

Framing this controversy as uniquely a “Biden-era” issue is misleading: The retracted intelligence products span multiple administrations, including work from the Obama and Trump years. The issue instead reflects broader, long-running analytic and sourcing failures inside the CIA, not a single administration’s agenda. Accountability, therefore, should be institutional — a principle the CIA has begun to uphold by formally retracting the affected assessments.
