Is Budapest Pride a threat to Hungary's sovereign values or a civil liberty that must be protected?

The Spin

Conservative narrative

This decision is a disappointing surrender to Western progressive pressure that undermines Hungary's sovereign right to protect its traditional values. The right answer to this kind of event is promoting families rooted in male-female roles, childbirth and the protection of children and Christians. Holding a counter-event like Family Pride is a kind of positive, values-driven response that communities across Europe should be organizing.

Progressive narrative

Free assembly is a right that must be protected for everyone, and Budapest Pride deserves the same legal standing as any other public gathering. The Tisza government is committed to letting the police make the call on the event rather than letting politicians weaponize legislation to shut it down. Blocking a lawful march through rushed parliamentary action would be a direct attack on civil liberties.
