Barring Pablo Marçal from debates before his case is fully decided creates an uneven playing field. This is a blatant act of censorship that punishes a candidate even before guilt is confirmed. If his candidacy is ultimately validated, the damage to his campaign will already be done, since momentum, exposure, and public trust don't come back once they're gone. Courts should refrain from deciding winners and losers through procedure before voters get the chance to decide for themselves.

Marçal launched a candidacy despite being ruled ineligible until 2032, which makes these restrictions entirely justified. His campaign is built on spectacle, disinformation and attacks on the institutions meant to hold him accountable. Letting someone exploit electoral loopholes to grab media attention while legally barred from holding office is a direct threat to democratic integrity.

Marçal was never a real candidate: he's Flávio Bolsonaro's designated spoiler, sent to bleed attention and votes from center-right rivals while doing the dirty attacks Flávio won't. His case is legally dead, and if it drags long enough it could even nullify enough votes to help Lula to win the election in the first round. It's positive that electoral authorities are taking swift action.
