The Spin

Establishment-critical narrative

The breakneck speed of AI development poses a direct threat to every aspect of human life. From our democratic institutions and the job market to the well-being of our children, AI could upend human civilization and, with it, the continuation of the species. A moratorium on data centers, therefore, is essential to ensure proper debate and democratic oversight on this challenge before it is too late.

Pro-establishment narrative

A moratorium on data centers along the lines suggested by Bernie Sanders would be utterly disastrous for the U.S. This act of self-harm would be tantamount to surrendering the country's technological leadership to China in the midst of a new cold war. If anything, America must build more data centers faster to maintain its global competitiveness and ensure that the U.S. leads this century as it did the last.
