Zelenskyy Rules Out Ceding Territory After Meeting European Leaders

Is it right that Ukraine should under no circumstances give up territory to Russia, or is this the work of European leaders again sabotaging a peace deal?

The Spin

Pro-Europe narrative

While President Trump's negotiating efforts are appreciated, Europe must ramp up pressure on Russia to bring its barbaric war on Ukraine to an end. It must also ensure that any peace deal for Ukraine is just and lasting, and include security guarantees. While diplomatic efforts continue, European leaders have reinforced Ukraine's ability to defend itself, also making positive progress on the use of frozen Russian sovereign assets to pay for Ukraine's reconstruction.

Pro-Ukraine narrative

Russia insists that Ukraine give up its territory. But Ukraine does not have the right to do this. Neither by the terms of its constitution nor by international law. It should not be done on moral grounds either. A revised peace plan is being sent to Washington in the hope that a compromise can be found in this area.

Pro-Russia narrative

Zelenskyy's talks with European leaders are reminiscent of Boris Johnson's 2022 visit to Kyiv. Just as Russia and Ukraine are on the verge of making progress towards a deal, the neocons, bureaucrats and tools of the military-industrial complex in the U.K. and Europe, as well as their enablers in the mainstream media, all work their hardest to scupper a deal.

Pro-Trump narrative

European leaders are a bunch of weak people, governing over decaying nations. They talk and talk about Ukraine, but in the end, all they do is keep the war going. Russia's got all the cards and they're still advancing. It's time for Zelenskyy to make a deal. Besides, it should be around election time in Ukraine, and the nation is looking less and less like a democracy.
