Trump has once again leveraged tariffs to protect the interests of U.S. citizens and companies at home and abroad, particularly those related to free speech, as well as the national security of the country, its foreign policy and economy. This is a measured response to repugnant policies, practices and actions, and one that shows the world what good leadership looks like.
Regardless of what has been claimed in the executive order, it's a matter of fact that Brazil poses no unusual and extraordinary threat to the U.S. Furthermore, it's concerning to realize that Trump continues to insist that he holds authority to impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. If the courts don't rein him in, Trump will set a dangerous precedent.
