The Spin

Republican narrative

The changes to U.S. immigration prove that President Trump is putting the American people first. Friday's executive orders simultaneously open a path to citizenship for the world's most desirable talent while closing the door on the mass migration that has ruined the American job market. In doing so, the changes will strengthen America, increase investment and create work for ordinary citizens.

Democratic narrative

The new 'gold card' is not only an inherently unfair vehicle for the rich that cheapens U.S. citizenship, but it also leaves the U.S. even more exposed to danger from outside threats. This program will offer the exclusive benefits and access conferred by U.S. citizenship on a platter to terrorists, drug dealers and foreign agents, who will use it to infiltrate the U.S. and deal harm.
