Canada: Singh Resigns as NDP Leader After Election Loss

The Spin

New Democratic Party narrative

The NDP's performance last night was a resounding defeat, something even its leader has acknowledged. While this election puts a damper on things at present, it's important to remember how successful the NDP has become over the last eight years, and how one election won't stop it from regaining momentum in the near future under new leadership.

Liberal Party narrative

With the party now set to lose its official status, this loss was much bigger than Singh makes it out to be. While NDP undoubtedly held influence in recent years, voters clearly thought Carney and the Liberals were more capable of bringing the country together to fight Trump. This was a mandate for a strong, coherent, and Liberal nation.

Narrative C

It appears Singh wasn't the "kingmaker" some made him out to be. What he was for certain was an anti-Indian slanderer who made baseless claims that India assassinated Sikhs in Canada. These were defamatory, incendiary, and, most importantly, bad for the Indian diaspora globally. Fortunately, Canadians rejected his divisive racial rhetoric and chose to elect a more worthy person in his place.
