The Spin

Narrative A

Dual citizenship fundamentally undermines the sacred bond that unites Americans and creates dangerous conflicts of interest. Though immigrants naturalized in the U.S. must renounce foreign loyalties on oath, they are allowed to retain foreign citizenship — and U.S.-born individuals may claim citizenship in other countries. People must be proud of their heritage, but being an American is an honor that requires complete devotion.

Narrative B

Stripping citizenship from dual nationals is blatantly unconstitutional and attacks millions of Americans whose global ties strengthen the nation, revealing a desperate empire trying to trap its own citizens with authoritarian control masqueraded as patriotism. The millions of U.S. citizens who hold dual nationalities don't have divided loyalty — at most they act pragmatically — and they actually enhance America's economy, influence and security.
