This lawsuit is ridiculous. The Times and other outlets failed to comply with reasonable restrictions, and so rightfully lost their access. The Pentagon's new press corps shouldn't be smeared by The Times. This expanded access ensures transparency by welcoming reporters willing to follow common-sense agreements while maintaining the tradition of resident media holding the department accountable.
The Times is right to sue the Pentagon. The new credential policy amounts to government manipulation of reporting, removing independent journalists who refuse sweeping restrictions while granting workspace to outlets that parrot administration talking points. This assault on press freedom violates constitutional rights and undermines the public's need for information the government doesn't want revealed.
