The Spin

Democratic narrative

The Trump administration is weaponizing the immigration system to punish a man for exercising his constitutional rights and challenging his wrongful deportation to a torture prison in El Salvador. That officials are now threatening Abrego with deportation to Uganda unless he pleads guilty to charges he denies is a dangerous abuse of power that threatens due process rights and reveals that deportation threats are being used as leverage to coerce guilty pleas.

Republican narrative

The Trump administration will hold this dangerous criminal accountable after years of legal delays and despite successive efforts from activist liberal judges to block his removal from U.S. soil. Abrego is an extremely dangerous illegal alien who has partnered with other criminals to break the law in the U.S. He will remain detained until his deportation, a move that a court can't lawfully stop in his case.
