The assassination is a deliberate attempt to sabotage phase two of the ceasefire. Hamas has so far exercised restraint, but frustration is growing among its members as Israel continues to blockade, bomb and isolate Gaza, raising fears of renewed escalation, which Israel would then use as justification for further violence. Even the White House condemned Netanyahu for the killing of Raed Saad, confirming that Israel's actions threaten to derail the fragile truce.
Hamas violated the ceasefire by re-militarizing Gaza while refusing to return the remains of the last captive as required under phase one. Raed Saad was actively working to rebuild Hamas's military strength and rearm the group, representing a direct breach of the Trump plan that Hamas supposedly accepted. Eliminating terrorists who planned the Oct. 7 massacre remains fully justified when they threaten Israel's security.
