Indiana's redistricting is a necessary defensive move against blue states that have already gerrymandered their maps to squeeze out Republican voices. Democrats are actively rigging their districts to diminish conservative representation in Congress, so Republicans can't unilaterally disarm while facing this unfair, coordinated attack on representation.
Trump is desperately pressuring Indiana Republicans to rig congressional maps because his unpopular agenda threatens GOP control in the 2026 midterms. This power grab comes after Trump's budget kicked 290,000 Hoosiers off health insurance and put rural hospitals under threat. Americans overwhelmingly oppose partisan gerrymandering by double-digit margins.
All this gerrymandering by both political parties is eroding democracy nationwide. Democracy can't be saved if everyone in power is attempting to suppress the voters. It's time for a better way forward — independent commissions that draw districts rather than letting politicians choose their voters.
