India successfully conducted its first-ever space docking experiment (SpaDeX) on Thursday, becoming the fourth nation after the US, Russia, and China to achieve this complex technological feat.
The SpaDeX lifted off on Dec. 30, 2024, carrying two satellites weighing 220 kg (485 lbs) each. It performed a precise rendezvous at an altitude of 475 km (292 mi) above Earth.
The mission had been postponed at least twice, the latest on Jan. 7 and then on Jan. 9, due to technical issues, including ground simulations and unexpected excess spacecraft drift.
