The Spin

Republican narrative

Trump was elected to implement his America First agenda, and formalizing the name change to Gulf of America is one of numerous actions Republicans are taking to make sure the president gives the electorate what it wants. This name change is a tribute to the entrepreneurs driving the economy of the Gulf and also to those in the armed forces who defend the gulf's waters.

Democratic narrative

This legislation highlights just how unserious and directionless congressional Republicans are at the moment. Instead of taking up legislation to improve the economy, public safety, or national security, Republicans decided to waste everyone's time by debating and passing this bill that has little chance to pass the Senate.
