For 150 years, numerous U.S. presidents have longed for a large event space at the White House complex, but their administrations have come and gone without attempting to do anything about it. President Trump, who has discussed his plans with the National Park Service and others, will make these necessary changes, doing so in a way that honors the original design of the building.
If anything could symbolize Trump's unabashed, wrecking-ball-style presidency, it would be the images of heavy machinery being used to tear down the wall of the historic home of the U.S. presidency. In its place will go a lavish and tasteless ballroom.
Controversy always surrounds U.S. administrations whenever White House renovations are taking place. But the reality is, many presidents before Trump have made modifications to the historic building, all with their fair share of abuse, and Trump is unlikely to be the last one either. However, it is concerning that he doesn't appear to be checking his plans with federal regulators.
