After systematically undermining Brazil's democracy with election lies and insurrection incitement, Bolsonaro thought that attacking national sovereignty to save his own skin would be the right decision. This latest development comes amid growing fears that the former president could flee abroad and show that Brazilian authorities will not kowtow to Trump and his attempt to blackmail the country to halt the prosecution of Bolsonaro.

As expected, Brazil's de facto dictator Alexandre de Moraes has doubled down on his political persecution against Bolsonaro in a clear challenge to President Trump. The former Brazilian president has always complied with all of his court decisions, even those clearly illegal, and poses no flight risk. It's clear that these actions are just Brazil's authoritarian regime showing that they will humiliate Bolsonaro because they can.
