New York Judge Juan Merchan on Monday rejected Pres.-elect Donald Trump's latest effort to have the sentencing in his state business fraud case delayed from its Jan. 10 date.
In his ruling, Merchan found that arguments from Trump's lawyers were "a repetition" of one made "numerous times in the past." Merchan already postponed the sentencing from July 11 because of questions surrounding presidential immunity.
On Jan. 3, Merchan rejected Trump's motion to dismiss the case. The judge also indicated he would likely impose an unconditional discharge without jail time.
The case represents continued unlawful political weaponization of the justice system against Trump. This lawfare violates established legal precedent on immunity and threatens the functioning of the federal government.
