The Facts
According to satellite imagery obtained by BBC Verify, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been conducting construction activities more than 600 meters inside the Area of Separation (AoS), a demilitarized buffer zone between Israel and Syria.
The Israeli military has reportedly established checkpoints between Syrian towns, conducted weapons confiscation operations, and set up multiple military positions throughout the buffer zone.
Local Syrian residents report disruptions to essential services, including water supply and electrical infrastructure. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the IDF opened fire during at least two protests.
