Taiwan: William Lai Sworn in as President
The Facts
William Lai Ching-te, 64, was sworn in as Taiwan's new president in a ceremony at the presidential building in Taipei, attended by representatives from 29 countries.
In his 30-minute inaugural speech, Lai said a "glorious era of Taiwan's democracy" had arrived but also warned of China's "attempt to annex Taiwan."
