Of the 99 journalists killed globally in 2023, 77 — including 72 Palestinians — died reporting on the Israel-Hamas war, according to a report published by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on Thursday.
The 2023 total is reportedly the highest figure since 2015 and 44% more than the number of media personnel killed in 2022.
A perceptible anti-Israel bias pervades the global NGO fraternity. Only Israel's "war crimes" are highlighted and spoken about, even though all parties hold responsibility. Such cherry-picking during a war launched by Israel's enemies can only be called propaganda.
The world, especially the West, rarely misses an opportunity to point to the lack of free speech in the Arab sheikhdoms. But rarely is Israel, a democracy, taken to task for its violations. What more do we need to conclude that Israel is carrying out a veritable massacre of journalists?
