Lara Trump on Sunday announced her intention to resign as Republican National Committee co-chair, stating that her mission of achieving fundraising goals and ensuring election integrity was complete.
The resignation comes as speculation mounts about her potentially filling US Sen. Marco Rubio's seat in the Florida delegation. Pres.-elect Donald Trump, Lara Trump's father-in-law, has nominated Rubio to serve as Secretary of State.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis will have the authority to appoint Rubio's replacement through 2026, if Rubio is confirmed. A decision is expected by early January.
The US Senate could use Lara Trump — a smart, young, outspoken woman — to break up its all-boys club. As a mother, Trump knows the issues that everyday Americans are concerned about, and she can be their voice among the elites in Congress. It's a no-brainer for DeSantis to pick her.
Lara Trump is unqualified to be a Senator. But that doesn't matter in the Republican Party, which the Trumps have totally taken over. DeSantis will acquiesce because nothing matters other than what Donald Trump — and possibly Trump confidante Elon Musk — wants.
