The UK Dept. of Work and Pensions revealed on Tuesday that millions of low-income households in the UK will receive cost-of-living support from the government of up to £900 ($1084 USD) over the financial year.
Eight million people will receive a first payment of £301 this spring, a second of £300 in the fall, and a final £299 installment in the spring of 2024. The exact dates for the payments are yet to be announced.
After the scandals of Johnson and the disaster of Truss, Sunak has brought stability back to the government. However, the economy is still in a crisis and the cost of living is becoming ever more alarming. Tories must once again convince the UK that they have the capabilities to deliver and Sunak — despite the odds stacked against him — must level with the UK population, admit the mistakes of yesterday and rebuild the Tory reputation.
The economy is going to get worse before it gets better, and it is likely that any economic recovery will come too late to save the Conservative Party from electoral defeat. With an even bigger fall in living standards than seen in 2022 predicted, and despite Sunak stabilizing the markets after the failure of Truss, a long period of Tory rule is coming to an end.
