At least 500 flights leaving and flying to the UK were grounded following a "technical issue" with air traffic control systems, the National Air Traffic Services said Monday.
According to Transport Secretary Mark Harper, the technical issue has been fully resolved, however, significant flight disruption resulted from the glitch in the UK and beyond.
The network-wide failure of the UK's air traffic control systems is extremely concerning. Millions of passengers, including children, face massive flight disruption. The UK government needs to get a better handle on the transportation sector.
The UK's air traffic control systems were overwhelmed as millions of holidaymakers hit the airports for the summer holidays. The government is working to get the flights back on track after delays and ensure mishaps are averted. This type of disruption was exacerbated by the extraordinary number of travelers.
