  • Hours after Israel Defence Forces announced they had conducted military raids into Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a televised address to the nation late on Friday.

  • It was the first time the Israeli leader had done so on Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest that begins at sunset on Friday, and something no Israeli prime minister has done since Yitzhak Rabin in 1994.
