X (formerly Twitter) owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino are set to oversee the company's trust and safety team, the social media platform announced on Monday.
According to Yaccarino, X's product and engineering teams will report to Musk, while all other divisions – including human resources, legal, and finance – will report to her.
While X has received much criticism under Musk's leadership, rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated. Competitors are having difficulty gaining ground, while X just set a new record for monthly users. It's taking time for Musk to get the platform on the right track, but progress is clearly being made.
Since Musk took over, X has become a cesspool of hate speech and disinformation. There's no reason to believe this reorganization will make it any better, as the plans still involve Musk overseeing many of its crucial activities. X will be a dangerous purveyor of hostile rhetoric until he adequately restaffs the trust and safety division with competent department heads and workers.
