On Sunday, at least two people were killed and 28 injured following gunfire at a block party in Baltimore. Three of the wounded victims were in critical condition and many were under 18.
18-year-old Aaliyah Gonzalez died at the scene, while 20-year-old Kylis Fagbemi was pronounced dead after he was transported to the hospital. No suspects were identified, and there is a $28K reward for information leading to their capture.
This egregiously violent act shows once again how necessary it is to strengthen gun laws in the US. It should be more difficult to access guns so that they don’t wind up in the wrong hands. Organizations, like the National Rifle Association – which sued Gov. Wes Moore over a gun safety bill he signed – aren’t helping, and should instead work to keep communities like Baltimore safer.
Maryland already has a red-flag law, universal background checks, a ban on high-capacity magazines, and other gun restrictions that are popular with Democrats, yet none of those laws stopped this tragedy or others that have happened in the city that’s ranked No. 8 for gun control by Everytown for Gun Safety. It’s time for liberals to look for other solutions to this problem.
