The Spin

A young woman reports being passed around while incapacitated, and the system shrugs — that failure belongs to the institutions, not to her. Snapchat messages advertising a drugged woman as free access show a culture that treats female bodies as property, and a narrow rape statute shouldn't be a permission slip. Accountability means independent investigations, real consequences and prevention that actually works.

Accusation is not conviction, and Duke lacrosse and the Rolling Stone fiasco proved what happens when outrage outruns evidence. Texts in which the accuser called the night legal and friendly, and only reframed it weeks later after rumors spread, are exactly why a slow, careful process matters. A governor declaring guilt and handing the case to an ally who already prejudged it poisons any claim of impartiality.
