The Spin

Gutted budgets, crumbling classrooms and missing staff pushed a generation to the breaking point, and the anger spilling into the streets is the predictable bill for years of austerity. A government that can't command parliament shouldn't be surprised when young people stop waiting for unions or parties to speak for them. Fixing schools, not blaming teenagers, is the only way out.

Torching buildings and injuring dozens of school staff has nothing to do with defending public education — it wrecks it. The safety of students and the adults who teach them outweighs any slogan, and keeping campuses open while arson spreads would be reckless. Remote classes keep learning alive until the violence stops.
